At just four years old, Alexandra “Alex” Scott held her first lemonade stand fundraiser for what would eventually become Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). Alex passed away in August 2004 at the age of eight from her battle with neuroblastoma, but not before exceeding her goal of raising $1 million. ALSF is her legacy. Having raised more than $150 million, ALSF and its supporters are committed to finding cures and innovative treatments for all children battling cancer.
I found the strength and courage of the children, parents and siblings I met to be truly amazing. The doctors, nurses and researches show true compassion and optimism. And the children affected by childhood cancer are still optimistic as well – they continue to dream about the future and enjoy life to its fullest every day.
